Directory of Services & eBook Builder
The Council on Aging is a non-profit organization that serves older adults and their caretakers in Middle Tennessee by providing information, advocacy, and education to aid in their care. The Council on Aging approached Centresource with the need to increase the accessibility and reach of their powerful information to its diverse group of users. The Council on Aging’s largest piece of content, a robust directory of services for seniors, had limited search function and was cumbersome and slow for administrators to update. We worked to recreate the directory as a Rails application, developing a user friendly frontend interface and an easily adminable backend that plugs into the existing Council on Aging website. Additionally, our team developed an eBook Builder to allow the Council on Aging team to turn any printed content into an eBook for easy updating and sharing with the Council on Aging’s audience.
The Centresource team has been a game changer for the Council on Aging of Middle Tennessee! Not only are they outstanding at what they do, but they're also great people who know how to translate ideas into functional, mission driven solutions.
Our team utilized Rails to build both the Directory of Services and eBook Builder, making them accessible from the same admin panel. Rails provided a clean frontend interface and a robust backend that is easy for admins to update and see immediate changes.
Elasticsearch was implemented within the Rails admin to ensure maximum searchability for the Directory of Services, including keyword tags and searches by location which previously had not been possible.
In addition to creating the Directory of Services and eBook Builder, our team provided UI updates to the existing WordPress site, refreshing the site’s styles and photography and ensuring that the new Directory of Services and eBook Builder integrated seamlessly into the existing site.
Prior to the rebuild, the Directory of Services was difficult to navigate and time consuming to update. Admins were unable to easily update users with the most accurate information, users missed on valuable content and revenue was left on the table from potential ad space and promoting listings. The new directory increases internal efficiencies by connecting directly to their CRM to update key information, cuts down on phone calls to their office from confused users, and has opened up new revenue streams for ad sales within the directory. Additionally, the eBook Builder provides a scalable solution to create and share the Council on Aging’s powerful content, allowing for easy editing and updating, while cutting down on printing costs. This new technology allows the Council on Aging to better serve their community of users in the support and care of older adults in Middle Tennessee.
